PANJIM: Girls fared better in the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) Class 10th examination, results of which were announced on Wednesday. The overall pass percentage stood at 90.93, which is over 5 per cent higher than last year.
The pass percentage of girls – whose enrollment was higher than the boys – was recorded at 91.56 whereas 90.30 per cent boys cleared the exams that were held from April 1-20, 2016 across 26 centres.
As many as 76 schools, including 17 government schools, have secured cent per cent results with 149 achieved over 95 pass percentage.
Goa Board Chairman J Rebello told a press briefing that 19871 candidates had registered for the SSC examination under whole category, of which 19867 appeared and 18066 passed, giving pass percentage of 90.93%. While 935 candidates registered under the exempted category, of which 935 appeared and 460 passed giving pass percentage of 35.29%.
Records further indicate that out of the total, 9178 out of 10024 girls and 8888 out of 9843 boys who appeared for the exams cleared it. Besides the hard work of the students, Rebello stated, four other factors contributed to the pass percentage being the first time introduced National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF), pre-vocational courses in certain schools, Sports Merit Marks and Children with special needs.
For the students who have failed in one or two subjects, the Goa Board has scheduled their exams from June 20-27, results of which are expected within 15 days. Around 900 students are expected to appear for the supplementary exams.
