PANJIM: State Government is contemplating to include organ transplant procurement management in the masters’ degree course at Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) in Bambolim.
The information was shared by Health Minister Vishwajit Rane while inaugurating a three days Intermediate Training Course in Transplant Procurement Management (TPM) being organised by GMC in collaboration with the Donation and Transplantation Institute (DTI) from Barcelona in Spain.
Rane said, “This is a unique programme we have introduced alongwith the DTI from Barcelona which has a worldwide reputation for organ transplant. We will be taking forward this relationship with them by tieing with them for future collaborations. GMC will take the benefit of all the best practices in the world and make this programme a success in Goa.”
Stating that the short term courses will be held regularly henceforth, he further informed, “Discussions are on to have a Masters Course in this field. Goa government will spend the money and two doctors will be sent to their institute and get them trained. Further more we will collaborate through a Memorandum of Understanding for consultation. GMC will be the nodal institute in the State to take the organ donation programme forward.”
DTI Barcelona’s Executive Director Dr Maria Gomez informed that the TPM is an international training course to train medical professionals specially from the intensive care units and emergency units.
“They will be trained in transplant procurement management which includes all the procedures involved in organ transplantation.
