MARGAO: Salcete’s rural areas off late are witnessing a rise in crime cases with “history sheeters” looting people in broad daylight.
On Monday afternoon, a salesman of a reputed distribution channel in Nuvem, was robbed of Rs 30,000 cash. The victim in his complaint to the Maina Curtorim Police stated that while returning to his office at around 12 pm on Monday, two persons came in a four-wheeler vehicle and looted him of Rs 30,000. This is the second such case within 15 days.
This incident has alarmed many people, who have demanded stern action against the culprits.
The owner of the distribution channel said such cases have become rampant now and recalled how one of his dealers had complained of a similar incident wherein his salesman was looted of Rs 3,000 in cash.
“We have provided CCTV footage and the victims have identified the persons. It is bizarre how victims are made to sit for hours to register their complaints while the accused are roaming free,” said the businessman on the condition of anonymity.
Some complainants also allege that the Maina Curtorim Police have discouraged them from filing complaint warning them of the lengthy court process.
Police informed that the suspect in the case has been externed from South Goa but has still managed to rob people. It may be recalled that yet another salesman in Vasco was looted of Rs 80,000 cash in a similar manner.
