For a whole generation of gamers, Liberty City, Vice City and San Andreas were never just imaginary places on a screen. They were cities where lasting memories were created and countless hours were spent completing tasks, evading the police or simply driving around with no specific goal. For many, Grand Theft Auto was more than just a game. It became a part of growing up and a core part of their childhood. “GTA was the first-ever real game I ever played on my PC about 16 years ago. It shaped my understanding of gaming and was an introduction to concepts like the open world, etc.,” says Azvern Dias, a software engineer from Cuncolim. Since the original Grand Theft Auto arrived in 1997, the franchise has evolved through titles including GTA III, Vice City, San Andreas, GTA IV and GTA V, which was released in 2013. Now, after 13 years, GTA VI is set to arrive on November 19, 2026. “For me, GTA VI isn’t just another game. It feels like getting a piece of my childhood back. It’s like reliving those memories while making new ones. The hype hits differently because it’s been such a huge part of growing up,” says Ronan Fernandes, a medical student. The return of the series has been anything but ordinary. Almost every trailer, image and announcement has become a major event for gamers.

The kids who rushed home after school to play GTA V are adults now, either working or pursuing their studies. For many, the return of the franchise is not just the arrival of a new game, but a return to a world that was part of their childhood. Sylvester Jonathan Sanches, a software developer from Vasco says, “How crazy is it that I was just a kid playing GTA V 13 years ago, and now I’m an adult waiting for GTA VI? It honestly feels unreal. So much has changed since then, but somehow I’m still here, waiting for the next GTA.” GTA VI has also come a long way, showcasing highly detailed character models, lifelike lighting, realistic weather effects and detailed reflections. Rockstar’s trailers have placed a strong focus on the game’s environments and characters, from realistic weather and lighting to busy streets and detailed interiors. “It feels surreal, nostalgic, and bittersweet. 13 years ago, my biggest worry was middle school exams; now, I’m managing bills, work, and adult stress. Yet picking up the controller for GTA VI feels like using a time machine a high-five to my younger self proving that, despite all the responsibility, a part of me never grew up.” says Walwyn D’ Souza, an IT Engineer from Ribandar. The scale of GTA VI is also expected to push the open world experience further, with leaks and fan analyses suggesting a much greater number of accessible interiors, although Rockstar has not confirmed how many buildings players will be able to enter. GTA VI is also expected to be one of the most expensive games ever made, with some industry estimates putting its cost at around $1 billion to $2 billion.
GTA VI IS ALSO SELLING CONSOLES
The excitement surrounding GTA VI goes beyond the game itself. With Rockstar’s next blockbuster arriving on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, gamers who have spent years playing on older consoles now have another reason to upgrade. For some, buying a new console is no longer just about better graphics or faster performance, it is about being ready when GTA VI finally arrives. “I’m heavily looking forward to new gameplay mechanics and the open-world interactions. It’s the only reason I bought a PS5 right now, other than Wolverine, maybe,” says Azvern. The anticipation surrounding the game has also added to demand for current generation consoles, with reports of PS5 availability becoming increasingly difficult in some markets. For a generation of players who grew up with GTA, the wait for GTA VI is becoming a reason to step into a new era of gaming hardware. It is a familiar pattern in the gaming world: a highly anticipated title can push players to upgrade their setup just to experience it at its full potential. But GTA VI takes that excitement a step further. In other words, for some gamers, Rockstar isn’t just getting them ready for a new game. It is also giving them a new reason to buy the console that will run it.
