Two people, including a two-year-old child, died and six others were injured after a fire broke out on the 11th floor of a 12-storey building in Vile Parle West on Tuesday night.
The Mumbai Fire Brigade received the fire call at around 10.02 pm. The blaze was initially classified as a Level-1 fire at 10.08 pm before being escalated to Level-2 at 10.16 pm.

The fire was confined to electrical wiring and installations, an air-conditioning unit, household articles, a sofa, bed, false ceiling and kitchen utensils. The affected area was estimated at around 4,000 square feet.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control and completely extinguished it at around 1 am.
A total of eight injured people were reported following the incident. Two were taken to Cooper Hospital, while six were shifted to Nanavati Hospital.
At Cooper Hospital, 30-year-old fireman Manoj Sonavane and 29-year-old Shivam Dwivedi were treated and subsequently discharged.
At Nanavati Hospital, 2.5-year-old Abir and 23-year-old Ankita were declared brought dead.
The other injured persons were identified as Parth, 32, Hiren, 64, Yashasvi, 33, and Abhishek. They were reported to be in stable condition. Yashasvi and Abhishek were treated and discharged from the hospital.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, while further details regarding the incident are awaited.
