The death toll in the Mumbai Kurla landslide rose to seven on Wednesday after heavy rainfall triggered a collapse at Gaushiya Chawl in Chirag Nagar, near Rathod Medical, in the early hours of the morning. The victims included two children, according to a senior civic official.

The deceased were identified as Mohamad Samir Ansari, 14; Sahil Husen Abdul Kazi, 19; Aban Arif Shaikh, 2; Manat Arif Shaikh, 4; Marjina Arif Shaikh, 27; and Viket Ramesh Yadav, 27. One victim, a person believed to be around 45 years old, remained unidentified.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said rescue and relief operations were launched immediately after the incident. Teams from the BMC, Mumbai Fire Brigade, National Disaster Response Force, Mumbai Police and the 108 ambulance service were deployed at the site to search for people feared trapped beneath the debris.
Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawade announced compensation of ₹4 lakh for the families of those who died in the landslide. Each injured person will receive ₹50,000 toward medical treatment, according to the announcement.
Officials and emergency workers continued clearing the debris and searching the affected sheds as rescue efforts remained underway. The incident has renewed concerns over the risks faced by residents living in vulnerable settlements during periods of intense monsoon rainfall.
