A trainee doctor has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 23-year-old Moroccan woman inside the intensive care unit (ICU) of a private hospital in Goa. Police said the incident occurred on August 31, and the survivor’s sister, a Spanish national, lodged a complaint on September 10.
The accused, identified as Dr. Vrushab Doshi from Solapur in Maharashtra, was tracked down in Sangli and taken into custody on Thursday. According to police, he has been booked under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including 64(2)(e) (rape in hospital), 74 (assault or use of criminal force with intent to outrage modesty), 75 (unwelcome sexual contact), 76 (forceful disrobing), and 79 (insulting the modesty).

The victim was admitted to Healthway Hospital in Old Goa on August 29 after being diagnosed with a neurological disorder. She was confined to the ICU and reportedly immobile at the time of the assault, which left her extremely vulnerable.
In her complaint, the sister said Doshi exploited his position of authority to assault the woman while she was under medical care.
Police said Doshi fled Goa after the incident, prompting a manhunt. He was eventually located in Sangli and arrested.
Healthway Hospital confirmed Doshi’s immediate suspension pending the investigation. “The hospital will continue to provide all moral and logistic support to the victim during her ordeal,” the management said in a statement.
The case has sparked shock and anger, raising fresh concerns about patient safety and accountability in healthcare institutions.
