Russian national allegedly overstayed by 962 days, while a Ugandan woman has been detained as authorities intensify action against visa violations.
The Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in Goa has deported 43 foreign nationals so far this year as part of an intensified crackdown on visa overstayers, with a Russian actor who reportedly appeared in advertisements alongside Bollywood stars among those sent back to his home country.
According to FRRO officials, the Russian national arrived in India on a tourist visa in February 2020 but remained in the country illegally after failing to regularise his stay following the Covid-19 pandemic. During his prolonged stay, he allegedly travelled to different parts of India for commercial assignments before eventually settling in Arambol, where authorities traced him.
Officials said the Russian had overstayed his visa by approximately 962 days before he was deported on May 13.
In another operation, FRRO Goa detained a Ugandan woman accused of violating visa regulations by overstaying her permitted period of stay. Authorities said she had been residing in Morjim for the past two months before she was located and taken into custody in Mandrem.
Deportation proceedings against the Ugandan national have been initiated, officials said.
The FRRO stated that the action forms part of an ongoing nationwide drive to identify and deport foreign nationals who continue to remain in India after the expiry of their visas, reaffirming its commitment to enforcing immigration laws and curbing long-term visa violations.
