PANJIM: Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Archbishop of Goa and Daman Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrao have conveyed their heartiest greetings and warm wishes to the people of Goa on the joyous occasion of Diwali.
In his message, the Governor said, “Diwali is one of the most significant festivals of our country which is celebrated with great enthusiasm and joy irrespective of religion, caste and creed.”

He said, “Diwali symbolises the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance.”
The Governor said, “On this beautiful festival of lights, I urge all the people to eradicate the evils from the society and re-dedicate ourselves to work to promote peace, communal harmony, good-will, patience and prosperity of our country which is the essence of this festival.”
In his message, the Chief Minister said, “The festival of Diwali inspires people to conquer evils, by building a society in which peace and communal harmony would prevail. The illumination on the day reminds us about the high ideals of Lord Rama, who returned to Ayodhya on this day, after 14 years of banishment and victory over Lanka after defeating Ravana. Removing the darkness of ignorance and leading towards the light of knowledge is the inspiration behind celebrating Diwali.”
“May this festival brighten every household with joy and prosperity and may the divine lights of Diwali spread peace, happiness and good health,” he concluded.
In his message, the Archbishop said, “On the occasion of Diwali, the Festival of Lights, I send to all our Hindu brethren warmest greetings and wishes for a joyous fellowship in their homes and communities. The light shining forth through this festival emanates the warmth of charity, effecting harmony and peace, after the victory over evil. May this festival motivate us to pass the same light to the future generations so that our society may shine bright with love, truth, harmony and freedom.”
