PANJIM: Governor P S Sreedharan, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrao have extended their greetings to the people of Goa on the occasion of Diwali.
In his message, the Governor said, “Diwali, the festival of lights is celebrated throughout the country with great gaiety and enthusiasm irrespective of caste, creed or religion. This unique spectacle of lamps across the vast and diverse socio-cultural canvas of our country helps to dispel the dark forces of ignorance, untruth, arrogance and selfishness and illumine our hearts with positive forces if knowledge, truth, humility and service to humanity.”
“At the same time this divine festival strengthens the bonds of unity and solidarity of our people,” he said.
“May the celebrations of Diwali this year herald a brighter year of peace, prosperity and happiness for the people of this beautiful State,” he said.
Sawant in his message said, “Diwali symbolises the victory of righteousness over evil, brightness over darkness, knowledge over ignorance and truth over falsity. The illumination on the day marks the joy, happiness on the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after defeating Ravana. This festival of lights inspires all, to move from darkness to light. Let us all walk on the path of light and become self-reliant i.e. Swayampurna in true sense.”
Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrao in his message said, “May all human beings strive to overcome the shadows of dark selfish desires through light-spreading acts of kindness, acceptance, tolerance, openness to others as well as to their beliefs and cultures, sustained development and protection of environment. Above all, let us learn to build an illumined society by respecting all humans and God’s Creation around us.”
