VASCO: Power Minister Milind Naik on Tuesday stated that the State government has requested the Central government to allot additional 150 MV to solve power shortage problem in the State.
Naik was speaking after inaugurating the 33 KV underground cabling from Verna sub-station to Vasco sub-station in the presence of Vasco MLA and KTC Chairman Carlos Almeida, Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Bhavana Bhosle, chief electrical engineer C Laxamanan, councillors and engineers and staff of Vasco power dept.
Naik said he does not want to complain against any one, however he blamed the earlier government for not carrying out regular maintenance of electrical appliances and cables.
“Goa is much better than any other state in the country as far as power supply is concerned. I have decided to undertake underground cabling in Mormugao taluka within next two-and-half years which will solve most of the problems faced by the citizens,” assured Naik.
“The government has requested the Central government to allot additional 150 MV and once we get the additional power supply, power shortage problem will be solved,” he added.
On the occasion, Almeida said no miracles take place overnight and for any major project to complete, it takes time. He praised the power minister for personally taking interest in completion of the project, which will help the consumers in a long way. He urged Naik to complete the underground cabling in Vasco constituency.
Executive engineer of Vasco Electricity Sub-Station Gopinathan Pillaik in his report stated that the work of laying underground cables started in 2011 and due to unforeseen problems the completion was delayed.
“The Vasco sub-station is now connected to Ponda sub-station via Verna sub-station and most of the problems like disruption of power supply due to falling of trees, bursting of insulators and other monsoon-related problems will be solved,” said Pillaik.
Pallaik said the total cost of underground cabling from Verna sub-station to Vasco sub-station is Rs 17 crore and the total length is 19 kms. “Unless the main power supply fails at Ponda sub-station, there will be no power disruption in Mormugao taluka,” added Pallaik.
