PANJIM: Assolda village of Curchorem Constituency and situated in the Quepem Taluka will be made energy efficient by replacing all bulbs, tube lights and fans of households into energy efficient LED bulbs and ceiling fans.

Disclosing this, Power Minister Nilesh Cabral said that the Assolda village has been taken as a pilot project under the Centrally sponsored scheme whereby all bulbs and tube lights and fans of about 600 household will be converted to energy efficient LED bulbs and fans.
According to the Minister, the LED bulbs last long, cost effective and it saves up to 60 per cent of power. Under the scheme, the Government of India has sanctioned Rs 1.37 crore.
Cabral said that the survey of all households has already been completed and the work of replacing bulbs and fans will be tendered and start from next month.
“We will monitor the difference in savings made by the individual households in one-year,” he said.
Cabral said that compared to ordinary ceiling fans, energy efficient fans has less watts but its functions with same speed and save huge energy unlike ordinary fans consuming more power. The ordinary ceiling fan consumes 80 to 90 watts of power while energy efficient fans consumer 28 to 30 watts of power, he added.
Cabral said depending upon the success of the Assolda village, the energy efficient scheme will be replicated in other villagers as its saves huge energy.
