PANJIM: The State government is all set to promote biogas plants at cattle, piggery and poultry farms for generation of cooking gas and organic manure.
The Department of New and Renewable Energy (NRE) has notified incentive scheme for promotion of biogas plants based on cow dung, pig dung and bird droppings from poultry.

The financial assistance will be restricted to Rs 2 crore for the current financial year for setting up four biogas plants.
The generated gas will be supplied to the nearby houses for domestic cooking purpose at a rate of Rs 400 per month and for commercial use at price of Rs 1,000 per month.
The aim is to manage the daily generated dung or litter waste at source only.
Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant in his Budget speech 2021-22 had announced to provide financial assistance to the promote biogas generation in cattle, piggery and poultry farms.
“The Government of Goa intends to launch the scheme for promoting ‘biogas plant based on cow dung, piggery dung and poultry litter’ and desires to extend its support for waste management at source and promote utilisation of natural source of energy in the form of biogas and provide hygienic, sustainable method of disposal,” the department said.
The department also said that the promotion of “biogas plant” will not only manage daily generated dung/litter waste at source and produce biogas but will also generate bio-slurry which can be used as liquid fertiliser in the farms/gardens by mixing three times water.
“The generated gas will lead in saving LPG consumption,” said the Department of NRE.
