Guirim Gram Sabha Witnesses Heated Debates Over Sarpanch's Absence and Local Issues

Tensions flared at the Guirim Gram Sabha held on Sunday as villagers engaged in heated arguments over various pressing issues, including the absence of Sarpanch Sunny Nanodkar, illegal landfilling, unauthorized constructions, and concerns related to garbage disposal.

Fondu Naik, addressing the gram sabha, expressed his discontent over the repeated absence of Sarpanch Sunny Nanodkar, urging the panchayat to postpone the meeting until the Sarpanch could attend. Panchayat Secretary Dinesh Chodankar clarified that, as per Panchayat Raj Act and Rules, the Deputy Sarpanch has the authority to conduct the meeting in the absence of the Sarpanch.

Villagers raised concerns about ongoing illegal landfilling and construction in the village, emphasizing the lack of action from the panchayat despite repeated complaints. Acting Sarpanch Shreya Naik responded, stating that the panchayat can issue stop-work notices for illegal constructions, but for illegal landfilling, the matter must be reported to the Mamlatdar for further action.

The issue of a garbage bin placed near a temple, causing foul odours, was also addressed. Villagers requested its removal, pointing out that the panchayat’s door-to-door garbage collection should suffice.

Additionally, topics such as the renewal of licenses for kiosks, bus stops, and frequent power disruptions in Aradi were discussed during the gram sabha.
