The decision to revoke the stop work order on the proposed construction project of a residential house and staff quarters by renowned fashion designer Tarun Tahiliani in Salvador-do-Mundo village has triggered protests from the local community. Residents marched to the Sarpanch’s residence, expressing their objections and demanding an explanation for the reversal of the stop work order.
The Pomburpa-Olaulim village panchayat had initially issued the stop work order on August 30, citing Section 64(1) of the Goa Panchayat Raj Act, 1994, in response to complaints from locals regarding the development in the village. A joint site inspection conducted by the deputy town planner at Mapusa affirmed the completion of the inspection, stating that the findings were clear.

In a recent statement, the panchayat revealed that, during a meeting on November 13, a unanimous decision was reached to revoke the stop work order. The panchayat emphasized that the project proponent, Tarun Tahiliani, had secured all necessary licenses and permissions from various authorities, including the panchayat, Town and Country Planning (TCP), health, and forest departments.
“The Panchayat body found that there was no ‘unauthorized construction’ work undertaken by him at Salvador do Mundo and has unanimously resolved to revoke the Stop Work Order dated August 30,” stated the panchayat.
The decision has sparked discontent among locals who question the transparency and fairness of the process, leading to organized protest and a demand for a thorough review of the decision to revoke the stop work order.
