Velim MLA Engr. Cruz Silva has urged the state government to immediately clarify the findings of the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) regarding reported oyster contamination, saying the uncertainty is causing concern among traditional fishermen and shellfish collectors.
Silva called on Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and the Fisheries Minister to intervene promptly and provide clear information on the issue.

He stressed that the government must strike a balance between protecting public health and safeguarding the livelihoods of thousands of coastal families who depend on fishing and shellfish collection.
The MLA demanded greater transparency from the authorities, along with timely action and necessary support for Goa’s fishing community in view of the reported contamination concerns.
