PANJIM: Taking a dig at All India Congress Committee (AICC) President Rahul Gandhi on Monday, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said the former has scored a zero in his opening innings (Gujarat elections).
The Chief Minister said that the election results in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh are an indication that the BJP is going to win the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. “It is a confirmation of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and formation of next government (in centre). We will also ensure that BJP will win handsomely in Karnataka,” Parrikar said.
“Prime Minister has his magic. The Prime Minister is pushing the party ahead. He is one leader who has higher popularity than the party there. Obviously, the leader pulls the party up,” he said
However, Parrikar said that the reverse is the case with Gandhi claiming that the latter’s popularity is lower than the party. “There was much speculation about results in Gujarat but the results have indicated that there is a connection between the Prime Minister and Gujaratis,” Parrikar said.
He added that in Gujarat various forces had come together, including Hardik Patel, and had launched a joint campaign to defame the BJP and the PM but the people of Gujarat know that an apple is an apple. Asked about the impact on Saurashtra region in the results, Parrikar admitted there was impact and said “There is bound to have anti-incumbency factor after 22 years of rule.”
On his analysis of the results, he said BJP has managed to increase its vote share by 1 percent while Congress has managed to snatch 4-5 percent of the votes from other parties. The Chief Minister ruled out that the implementation of GST had any impact on the vote share of the BJP in Gujarat.

Party workers gathered at the BJP office in the capital to celebrate the party victories in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh. Former Panjim MLA Sidharth Kuncalienker said the party workers will dedicate time during the Karnataka elections. “We will go to Karnataka to campaign and put all our efforts. We will also urge our fellow citizens who are from Karnataka to join us and tell the people of Karnataka to elect BJP to power. We will defeat Congress in their last state of existence and fulfil the dream of Congress mukt Bharat,” he stated.
