PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa has directed the Sarpanch of Socorro to remain present in the Court on April 18, 2018, in a petition filed by one Filomena Costa Frias, a senior citizen, alleging lawlessness in the village.
The petitioner’s advocate, Terence Vaz, placed before the Court photographs of trucks, carrying out illegal cutting of the hill and excavation of mud, carrying a notice falsely stating on duty of PWD.
The Advocate General placed on record a letter received from the Sarpanch, which indicates that the hill cutting has been undertaken without any authority.
The petitioner also brought to the notice that about 2500 trucks of mud had been illegally excavated from private properties and each truck fetches Rs 2500 which works out to Rs 62,00,000, a mud scam at a loss to innocent citizens.
The petitioner submitted that all the properties bulldozed are private lands, and such scams cannot take place without the involvement of local politicians.
