PANJIM: Headmistress of Our Lady of Rosary High School, Jacinta Fernandes, was laid to rest amid large group of mourners including family, friends, colleagues and students who turned out in large numbers despite the rain at the St Jerome’s Church in Mapusa on Tuesday.
Jacintha, 56, was knocked down along the Siolim-Ganeshpuri, Mapusa, slope by a towing crane while returning home from school, on Monday afternoon killing her on the spot.
According to the police, her two-wheeler was crushed by a crane proceeding towards Morjim. A car proceeding towards Mapusa came in the way of the crane and fearing a collision with the car, the crane driver turned left and hit the scooter resulting in Jacinta’s death.
Archbishop of Goa Filipe Neri Ferrão was the main celebrant and scores of priests and well wishers from in and around Mapusa attended the funeral mass. She leaves behind her husband Kevin Fernandes and three children.
