PILERNE: Pilerne Sarpanch Amarnath Govekar on Sunday informed that gram sabha that the high tension wires would be replaced and the works of underground electrical cabling would commence shortly.
The gram sabha also discussed issues such as cleaning of drains, construction debris strewn on the road, migrant labourers staying in rented premise and the stray cattle menace.
A villager proposed that the panchayat to repair the open drainages as it was bad health-wise for the villagers and could give rise to a number of vector borne diseases such as malaria and dengue. Accepting the proposal, the sarpanch assured to de-silt the open drainages. The sarpanch further informed that the panchayat has already sent the proposal to the PWD to undertake the works of covering the drains on priority.
Another concerned local pointed out to that construction debris were strewn on the road and demanded stern action to be taken against those caught dumping garbage. The sarpanch requested the villagers to inform him anyone dumping garbage and assured to take stern action against such an errant.
The meeting also sought a correction in the panchayat address put up on social media.
Another villager pointed highlighted vehicles lying abandoned in the village and urged the panchayat to dispose of the same. The Sarpanch said that the panchayat had no power to do anything about the abandoned vehicles.
The villagers also demanded solution for the stray cattle menace in the village. To this, Sarpanch Govekar informed the villagers that there is a proposal to set up a shed for stray cattle, beside the football ground. “The panchayat intends to appoint a labourer to impound the stray cattle and take care of them. We will pay him a monthly stipend of around Rs 10,000,” the sarpanch suggested and it was agreed to by the villagers.
The villagers suggested that the panchayat should conduct a survey of houses that have been rented out to migrant labourers and levy tax on such rooms. The Sarpanch agreed to this suggestion and decided to charge a nominal amount as a commercial tax on every household renting out its house to migrants in the village.
Later, Sarpanch Govekar read out the various development works the panchayat intends to undertake.
