MAPUSA: Calangute villagers are aggrieved with the hotel developer for blocking traditional access road to St Anthony Chapel at Gauravaddo-Meridional.

Calangute Parish Priest Fr Polly Lobo on Sunday appealed for raising the objection against illegal activities that disturb the peace in the chapel area and called upon the Village Panchayat to act swiftly to restore the traditional access to the chapel to its original status.
The hotel developer has constructed multi-storey building with seven floors and has destroyed the traditional access road.
Clotildes Braganca accused the sarpanch of fooling the villagers by issuing occupancy certificate without considering the objection from the villagers.
Calangute Constituency Forum President Premanand Diukar highlighted the impact of vertical development on the village environment when basic infrastructure in the village is not in place.
Diukar questioned the authorities as to how they cleared such a high rise building by hurriedly issuing occupancy certificate to the project which violates building rules and demanded that the occupancy certificate issued to the project be revoked immediately.
Chapel Committee President Michael Mascarenhas said the developer approached him with the proposal of another access to which the locals disagreed.
The villagers have now resolved to march to the panchayat to question sarpanch and file a complaint against the builder.
A complaint against the builder has been filed at the Calangute Police Station for destroying existing access to the chapel.
