PANJIM: Inspector General of Police, Sanjay Singh, currently under fire from the state government over the alleged misuse of his official vehicle, is expected to get a relieving letter on February 1.
The 1990-batch IPS officer is reportedly sent on forced leave, after pictures showing his car being driven by a woman, who violated traffic norms, were uploaded on a social networking site.
There is however no official statement that his transfer was due to the in-appropriate behaviour and misuse of power, as Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar is quoted as saying that Singh has failed to carry out field duty and sought his replacement. This communication was dispatched to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
The woman driver, who is yet to be identified, when caught by the traffic police last December had reportedly called up the IGP Singh, after which she was let off without a fine. It is reliably learnt this is precisely the reason why the government is upset with him.
“Not only was the official car misused but he also misused his position to allow someone to escape from paying penalty for traffic violation,” said a government source.
Parrikar, it may be recalled, had assured that he would take action against Singh by January 15, when he was informed about the matter.
