VASCO: The Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) has exposed a major security lapse at the Sada Sub-Jail, when a jailguard was caught on Thursday smuggling cigarettes and tobacco into the jail to supply them to jail inmates.
According to sources at Sada Sub-Jail, the IRB personnel stationed outside the Sada Sub Jail was frisking the jail guard, when they found cigarette packets and tobacco pouches hidden under his knee pad.
Sources further informed that the IRB personnel handed over the jail guard to the assistant superintendent of Sada Sub Jail, who after conducting inquiry, reported the matter to Jail Superintendent and Deputy Collector Mormugao Gaurish Shankwalkar and IG Prison.
When contacted, Jail Superintendent and Deputy Collector Mormugao Gaurish Shankwalkar admitted that the incident had taken place.
“I have sent my report to South Goa Collector N D Agarwal. An internal inquiry will be initiated against the jail guard,” added Shankwalkar.
