Babush Monserrate makes a fair point when he says that many parents in Goa sacrifice a lot to educate their children so that they can stand on their feet and have careers. He is also right when he says that it hurts and it is very sad when people with no merit but with money or sponsors or political connections get jobs while parents of hardworking and meritorious students who cannot afford to pay bribes, have to bear the plight of seeing their deserving children without government jobs.
But it will be fair to ask whether Babush Monserrate realised this now with around 80 days to go for the Assembly elections. Wouldn’t it have been nicer and perhaps more effective if the saga of this giant government job scam where posts are allegedly and openly sold, was raised in the party, in public, and in the Assembly by the MLAs?

Does even Monserrate know that the GMC is referred to as the VMC (Valpoi Medical College) or the SMC (Sattari Medical College) not for its location but the origin of most of the government servants who are selected to “serve” the State? The reality is that they serve the political ambitions of the Health Minister. This should have been raised by the same MLAs against Vishwajit Rane if they felt so strongly about this, as they rightly should, or for that matter, Deepak Pauskar and other ministers who are potentially a part of the same scam.
Selling jobs is a very serious issue and it should be dealt with not just politically but legally and administratively. It needs the political will not to use jobs as political currency or even a pure trading commodity. At this point, both seem to be happening.
