MARGAO: People who visited Saptha since Tuesday were surprised to see the streets free of hawkers. In an interesting twist to the saga of the arrest of two Revolutionary Goan youth, the administration appears to have buckled under public pressure after being accused of turning a blind eye to hawkers who were illegally selling their goods on the road.
“We had achieved what many thought was impossible”, said Manoj Parab of Revolutionary Goans. He informed the Herald that Revoltionary Goans had a positive impact on the festival and hopes that in the future, the local administration and police act in a similar manner and support locals who are running businesses honestly.
Couple of days back, two members of RG who had objected to illegal hawkers by placing their own table next to them, were placed under preventive arrests by the police claiming that they had behaved aggressively and challenged the police. The police had infromed Herald that they have not arrested any illegal hawkers who were obstructing the road.
