PANJIM: June, the first month of the monsoon season, ended with six per cent surplus rains. However, compared to the last year, the month recorded much low rainfall.
As per IMD, the month recorded total 37.54 inches (953.7mm) of rainfall as against the normal average of 35.37 per cent (898.5mm).
June 2020 had witnessed 19 per cent excess rainfall with total of 42 inches of rains.
The southwest monsoon onset over Goa was on June 5. The month that had initially recorded nearly 30 per cent more rains that the normal average, ended with only 6 per cent surplus as the monsoon current weakened.
“The southwest monsoon has been weak over Goa coast,” IMD said in their bulletin.
There is also no weather warning for the State till Sunday, though IMD predicts light to moderate rains at isolated places.
The three weather systems- Low Pressure Area over south Jharkhand & neighbourhood, off shore trough at mean sea level from south Maharashtra coast to north Kerala coast and a trough running from Eastcentral Arabian Sea to south Konkan at 5.8 km above mean sea level, helped enhance rainfall activity over the coast- formed between June 14-16, brought heavy showers for the State during the month.
For now, June 15 turned out to be the wettest day of the season with 4.75 inches of rains being recorded.
