PANJIM: Almost a week after the interim application filed by Karnataka Iron and Steel Manufacturers’ Association (KISMA) requesting the Supreme Court not to allow export of extracted iron ore from Goa, the association members have told the state Mines Department that they have not filed any such application in the Apex Court.
The mining lease holders in Goa have however clarified that not a single kilogram of iron ore from the State’s mines were ever sold to Karnataka for domestic consumption.
Directorate of Mines and geology on Wednesday had called for a special meeting to discuss the application filed by KISMA. The meeting was attended by lease holders, Vaman Rao who was representing KISMA secretary Dinesh Singhi, S Sridhar Goa Mining Association secretary and others.
When asked about KISMA’s application in the Court, Rao said that Singhi and the association were not aware about any such affidavit being filed in the Apex Court.
KISMA on October 30, requested SC not to allow export of already lying iron ore from Goa but instead
this should be made available to the iron and steel manufacturing units in Karnataka.
