MARGAO: The Konkani Bhasha Mandal (KBM) presented a manifesto to all political parties contesting Assembly elections of the Konkani language, demanding speedy implementation of the Official Language Act and at the same time also urged not to tamper with the Act in any regard.
According to Anwesha Singbal, president of KBM, executive committee of the association have met all the political parties in the State and handed over the manifesto which speaks about the necessary action that the next government will need to take with respect to the Konkani language in the State.
It has suggestions necessary for the strengthening of the language in the State.
“KBM will closely monitor the new government and see that these suggestions are implemented,” said Anwesha.
The manifesto stressed upon the Official Language Act, education, culture, besides Central schemes and support to the institutions.
“We sincerely and wholeheartedly believe that no political party should overlook the importance of protecting our culture and mother tongue and must necessarily prioritise the official State language Konkani,” said Anwesha.
She further said, “It is imperative that the government must be dedicated to the cause of protecting the language. Konkani Bhasha Mandal wishes to extend support in this regard to the future governing party by offering some suggestions.”
The memorandum stated that the Official Language Act should not be altered or tampered with in any regard.
“This Act was brought into action after enough discussion and debate and it was arrived at after great thought and conviction for the cause of protecting the State language, therefore it would not be advisable to tamper with the existing law,” she further stated.
She further said, “The government must take necessary steps to strengthen the presence of the Directorate of Official Language of Goa.The schemes and plans of the directorate must be implemented on priority basis by the government, besides the government should strictly implement the decisions given by the various committees set up under the Official Language Act of Goa.”
