Konkan Railway steps up measures to curb coronavirus

MARGAO: Konkan Railway Corporation (KRC) has taken up certain steps to control the spread of coronavirus or COVID 19 on the KRC route.

In the first place, there is intensive fogging and cleaning with disinfectants of all KRC owned trains and its major stations including the circulating areas, staircases, toilets, booking offices, waiting rooms, retiring rooms, door handles and knobs and other hand touched areas.

Besides all blankets and curtains have been removed from the AC coaches and a 24-hour-helpline number 10722 has been set up to provide information of hospitals for treatment of virus along the Konkan Railway route.

All officials interacting with public are provided with hand sanitisers and masks. Further, announcements about the virus and its prevention are made regularly on the public address systems at the stations.

In another major act, KRC has provided 60 beds for isolation under supervision of a medical officer and paramedical staff. They are as follows: 7 beds at Chiplun, 20 at Ratnagiri, 8 at Verna, 10 at Margao, 5 at Karwar and 19 at Udupi.
