MARGAO: In a shocking incident reported at Pedda, Benaulim, 35-year-old Vishwanath Sidnal, a native of Londa, who was working as a labourer and residing in a rented room along with his wife and four-year-old daughter, for the past three years, was found brutally murdered by an unknown person.
According to police, the unknown person, who was known to the couple, assaulted the victim on his neck with a sharp weapon and fled. The police suspect that the murder was due to an extra-marital affair.

The body was shifted to South Goa District Hospital for post-mortem examination and the police could not state how many injuries were there on the body and failed to find the murder weapon.
The police said that after the murder, the accused fled on the deceased’s motorcycle towards Margao Railway Station as seen in the CCTV footage. A police team has left for Khanapur in search of the accused. The murder appears to have been committed on Sunday as the body was found in a semi-decomposed state and police do not rule out the possibility of the accused escaping to Londa also.
Though the murder was committed 48 hours earlier, Colva Police were informed only this afternoon.
The murder came to light when Vishwanath’s mother, who lives in Mungul, came Tuesday afternoon with lunch for him.
Police are yet to ascertain the motive and the person behind the murder.
The wife was not in the room when the murder took place as she was seen leaving the rented premises at 4 am on Tuesday and could not be traced. She returned after reportedly visiting her family at Ramnagar.
Police have registered an offence under Section 302 of IPC for murder.
