In recent weeks, residents of Pernem Taluka have been on edge as sightings of leopards roaming the area have become increasingly frequent. Reports have surfaced of the big cats preying on dogs and cows, raising concerns among locals about their safety and the safety of their livestock.
Just days ago, a leopard was spotted in the vicinity of Deulwada Palyem, prompting immediate action from concerned citizens. Local Panch Shiva Tilve wasted no time in informing the forest department about the sighting, leading to the installation of a cage in the area by forest officials.

This incident comes on the heels of a similar sighting last month in Virnoda, adding to the growing unease among residents. With leopards reportedly venturing into villages, locals are urging authorities to take decisive action to mitigate the risk to both humans and animals.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a resident expressed their concerns, stating, “The presence of leopards in our villages is alarming. We fear for the safety of our children and our livestock. The forest department must take immediate steps to address this issue before any unfortunate incidents occur.”
Efforts to reach officials from the forest department for comment were unsuccessful at the time of reporting. However, it is hoped that swift action will be taken to ensure the safety and well-being of residents in Pernem Taluka.
