PANJIM: Around 3127 liquor outlets, identified at around 2,775 premises across the State, fall under the ambit of the Supreme Court (SC) order banning alcohol sale within 500 metres of National and State highways.
As per the survey reports of the taluka-level teams, Salcette has the maximum 627 licences followed by 470 in Mormugao, and Bardez with 429 retail and wholesale liquor outlets, and bars. The reports were submitted to the core committee of the Excise Department headed by Menino D’Souza on Wednesday.
With this, the department is set to issue show cause notices to the concerned owners in a bid to commence hearings on a day-to-day basis. “The implementation begins from April 1. We are conducting the hearings on fast track, every person will be given a fair chance to present its say to us,” an officer said.
