Lobo: Problem can be solved by upgrading the sub-station

CALANGUTE: In a bid to delicately balance the needs of local farmers and power supply in the area, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo said the problem could be resolved by enhancing the existing sub-station at Saligao to cater exclusively to consumers of Calangute.

“The proposed sub-station is being located at a site which has a plant nursery and paddy fields being cultivated by farmers. I will write to the electricity department to enhance the structure at the existing sub-station at Saligao, so that this extension could separately and exclusively cater to consumers of Calangute,” said Lobo.
The MLA said that Calangute receives its power supply from three different sub-stations. “The existing sub-station at Saligao caters to Saligao and parts of Calangute, the Candolim sub-station provides power supply to Candolim and parts of Calangute, while the Nagoa sub-station supplies power to Arpora, Nagoa, Baga and parts of Calangute,” said Lobo.
“The sub-station at Saligao can be upgraded and a separate sub-station for Calangute could be created at the existing site, which could even reduce the infrastructure cost. The State government has also acquired huge comunidade land at Calangute plateau. The electricity department could also use that area for the proposed sub-station, instead of taking over paddy fields at Calangute,” added Lobo.
