PERNEM: An altercation over a property dispute took a violent turn when a 56-year-old resident of Yelvan-Warkhand, Pernem, was allegedly murdered by his younger brother at Warkhand on Sunday afternoon. Two persons have been arrested in this connection.
According to sources, the incident occurred at about 1 pm when Eknath Thakur (46) and his brother Sadanand entered into heated argument over a property issue. However, in a fit of anger, Eknath allegedly hit a wooden stick on Sadanand’s head and smashed his chest with a stone. Sadanand died on the spot.
Pernem police informed that Sadanand had gone to meet his friend at Nanchapani in Pernem for some work. However, while he was returning home, Eknath intercepted Sadanand in the jungle area at Warkhand and entered into an altercation over a property matter. Eknath then assaulted Sadanand with a wooden stick.
Police have found several wound marks on Sadanand’s body and have suspected the involvement of more people in the crime. Pernem police conducted the panchanama and sent the body to GMC in Bambolim for autopsy. The accused and his wife, Ekanti surrendered to the police.
