PONDA: Marcaim locals under banner of Marcaim Nagrik Kruthi Sang on Friday hold protest in the company premises at Marcaim Industrial Estate for suddenly terminating the bus service contract of a local for transportation of employees and providing it to a migrant contractor.
After the locals gheraoed the company officials, they were ready to sign an agreement with the local for hiring bus service in four days time. Large police force was present at the industrial estate to maintain for law and order.
The locals along with Sang President Premanand Gaude, supporters of Revolutionary Goans and Sang legal advisor Adv Varad Mardolkar ,who is also a Youth Congress president grilled the company officials for the injustice done by suddenly terminating service contract of Marcaim local Ajit Naik, whose bus service was engaged by the company for transportation of employees for the past 22 years.
The locals were furious that the company after terminating the bus service of Marcaim local Ajit, engaged the service of migrant contractor without giving proper reasons.
According to Premanand, the locals have sacrificed their land, water for industrial estate and also facing pollution while 93 per cent workforce engaged here are migrants. Even few contract works are also offered to the migrants. Even the companies are reluctant to hire their buses, rickshaws and other vehicles for the contract works.
The Marcaim locals have warned the industries for depriving locals the jobs and contract works and have also submitted memorandums to many companies urging them to give preference to the locals.
