Power Minister Mauvin Godinho on Tuesday said that Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has assured him that Dabolim Airport will not be shut down, following concerns over its future.
Godinho stated that he recently met Rajnath Singh in New Delhi and submitted a detailed memorandum highlighting issues related to Dabolim Airport. He said the Defence Minister gave a clear assurance that the airport would continue to function.
The minister claimed that he had received information that GMR was lobbying and urging the Indian Navy to take over the airport, which prompted him to personally intervene in the matter.
Hitting out at Goa Forward chief Vijai Sardesai, Godinho said Sardesai does not understand the issue properly and is making baseless statements while demanding his resignation. “I am the one who openly said that GMR is putting pressure,” Godinho asserted.
He reiterated that the state government will take all necessary steps to protect Dabolim Airport and safeguard the interests of Goans.
