Mauxi residents walk 25 kms to support Melauli locals

Valpoi: Around 300 villagers from Mauxi village on Monday walked almost 25 kms to Melauli village, to lend their support to Melauli locals against the IIT project.

The Valpoi police force tried to stop the Mauxi villagers from proceeding to Melauli but the villagers did not listen to the police and reached the Melauli village protest venue.

In between Khotodem village panchayat and Dhamshe more villagers joined the Mauxi villagers.

There was no police force delpoyed at Guleli village and Khotodem village junction on Monday to stop villagers from entering Melauli.The police force was removed and the land survey department did not conduct land demarcation work.

Around 2000 villagers had gathered at Shel- Melauli village forest to support the Melauli villagers in their protest against the IIT project on Monday.

“The fight against the IIT is about protecting our land”, said locals.

All Melauli villagers and other supporting villagers have given a ten days ultimatum to the Government to withdraw the decision to set up the IIT project.
