PANJIM, AUG 8
Feeling the need to strengthen its party base, the State Nationalist Congress Party has decided to have a two-month membership drive from August 15 to October 15.
Addressing a press conference on Sunday, State NCP Spokesperson Trajano D’Mello said this was one of the decisions taken at the Executive Committee meeting chaired by President Jose Philip D’Souza yesterday.
D’Mello mentioned the drive will be organised by office-bearers who will visit different constituencies.
“The party president and Tourism Minister Nilkanth Halarnkar will also involve themselves in the drive, subject to their availability,” he informed.
Over a question whether the party had set any target or vision for the membership drive, the Spokesperson answered, “The sky is the limit.”
He said the meeting also decided to hold a convention of party workers, supporters and sympathisers at Mapusa on September 5.
It was also decided to invite a minister of the party from Maharashtra to guide the convention,” he stated.
D’Mello said at the meeting the executive members resolved to thank the Union Minister for Civil Aviation Praful Patel for introducing a direct flight from Goa to Haj for the very first time.
