PANJIM: Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) has demanded the immediate resignation of Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho, to ensure free and fair investigation in the matter of the death of Merces panch Prakash Naik.
Godinho’s brother Wilson was named in the FIR in connection with the death.
Addressing media persons on Monday, MGP MLA Ramakrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavalikar said that Naik, who had contested 2017 Legislative Assembly election on MGP ticket from Santa Cruz Constituency, was one of the victims of “land mafia”.
“It is not a suicide, it is a murder. Naik has named those who were harassing and blackmailing him in his WhatsApp message that he sent,” former deputy Chief Minister said.
“Two people are named but they have not been arrested by police till now,” he said. Along with Wilson, Tahir is the second person against whom FIR has been registered by Old Goa Police.
“If Mauvin is not resigning then, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant should sack him immediately and set a precedent,” he added.
Dhavalikar claimed that the mafia is increasingly taking over land in the State and is harassing those who refuse to part away their prized assets.
Dhavalikar said the police should investigate a larger angle of ‘land mafia’ in the death of Naik.
“Just two people are named, but there is a possibility that more people could have been involved,” he said.
