Directorate of Education (DoE) on Monday extended the contract for supply of mid-day meals given to Self Help Groups (SHG) till the end of the academic year 2017-18.
“The government extends the contract for supply of mid-day meal under mid-day meal scheme of the self help group/mahila mandal and Parent Teacher Association w.e.f October 1 2017 till the end of the academic year 2017-18. All the terms and conditions will remain the same for the period as in the contract,” the DoE order states.
Speaking to Herald, Education Director G P Bhat said, “Today we have extended the contract for supply of mid-day meal of Self Help Groups (SHG) till the end of the academic year 2017-18. The decision to give the contract to Askshay Patra is in initial stages and will be decided once this term has ended.”
The government had earlier said it would rope in Akshaya Patra, a Bengaluru-based non-profit wing of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), to supply Goan schools with cooked meals, under the mid-day meal Scheme after complaints about the substandard food quality of food being provided.
