MARGAO: Principal Sessions Judge, Margao, B P Deshpande on Saturday posted to September 30 the case pertaining to Margao Municipal Council (MMC) and Fomento Green as the MMC agreed to pay some amount within a week while appealing to the company to continue managing the waste till the end of Sept.
Advocate Sandesh Padiyar, representing MMC, pointed out that the MMC at its meeting held recently had resolved to pay 10 per cent of the amount payable to Fomento Green and that MMC would deposit the 10 per cent amounting to Rs 1.40 crore in the court by next week.
The amount deposited would be invested in a fixed deposit for a period of six weeks and MMC agreed to pay Rs 1 lakh per day to Fomento Green for handling the waste from August 8 till the end of the month.
However, this amount would be paid directly to the company within a week of the company submitting a bill. MMC also asked the company to manage the waste till the end of September for which the MMC would pay Rs 1 lakh per day provided the company submits a bill.
The judge said all these agreements were subject to the final decision of the court and also decisions on other matters pending in different courts. The petition filed by Goa Foundation in this matter is due for hearing on September 6 before the High Court.
Incidentally, Fomento Green was represented by Rafik Dada, a Mumbai based lawyer.
