VASCO: Once again no confidence motion was moved against Mormugao Municipal Council Chairperson Kritesh Gaunkar by the 13 councillors on Saturday.
The councillors in a suspense move have made a letter to the Director of Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) requesting to call special meeting on no confidence motion.
After a month’s melodrama and tussle between the two BJP supported panels, once again no-confidence motion was moved against Gaunkar, who is the chairperson of MMC. After a failed attempt to topple the chairperson, this is the second time that the 13 councillors have stood together to dethrone Gaunkar.
It may be recalled that, in a special meeting called by DMA in Mormugao Municipal Council on May 3, there were 12-0 votes against Gaunkar and the presiding officer has declared the motion passed. This decision was later challenged by Chairperson Gaunkar and then Opposition had also seek the help of judiciary in this matter. As per the court’s decision the Urban Development Minister had set aside the decision of the presiding officer which reinstated Gaunkar as a chairperson.
On Monday morning, while speaking to the media, Deepak Naik had stated that his councillors are not going to move no- confidence motion against chairperson soon. But it came as a shocker for many when in the afternoon it was learned that the 13 councillors submitted a letter of no confidence motion to DMA.
As per the letter, the councillors have stated reasons such as failure of taking councillors into confidence in matter pertaining to MMC and arrogant behaviour, misuse of power have been given.
