MARGAO: Continuing with its drive against the illegal vendors selling goods on the footpaths in town, the Margao Municipal Council seized goods worth Rs 18,000.

A team led by Market Inspector Santo Fernandes cracked a whip on illegal vendors and hawkers in and around the New Market.
MMC Chairperson Lyndon Pereira said that a few days ago similar drive was conducted, however, it was noticed that illegal vendors continue to sell their goods on the footpaths.
“Many illegal vendors were found selling goods on the footpaths. MMC has seized goods worth thousands of rupees,” he said and added that such drive will continue in the coming days.
It may be recalled that the New Market Traders’ Association had demanded action against all these illegal vendors selling goods on the footpaths and especially around the New Market area.
Frustrated over MMC’s inaction, the traders complained that they are losing business due to illegal sale of goods on the roadside and footpaths by the vendors.
Sadekar Lane, besides at Bank of Baroda, Old Station Road, the lane opposite to Lily Garment, etc, are major areas where the illegal vendors are found selling goods.
