SANGUEM: The outgoing Sarpanch of Molcornem panchayat in Sanguem Deepak Naik is all set to get elected unopposed from ward No 1. It is reserved for ST candidates. With no other candidate having filed nomination papers from Ward No 1, Naik is all set to get another term in the seven-member panchayat.
Though another candidate Hari Keshav Naik had made all the preparations to file his nomination papers against Sarpanch Deepak Naik, Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar intervened in the matter and convinced Hari Keshav Naik not to file his nomination papers thereby leaving Deepak Naik as the lone candidate in the fray in Ward No 1 of Molcornem panchayat.
Over the last five years, Naik was instrumental in ensuring the desired development in all the seven wards of the village panchayat.
Immediately after the time set to file the nominations was over, Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar garlanded Deepak Naik for getting elected for the second time in a row.
After congratulating Naik, Goankar claimed that he shall ensure all support and cooperation for the development in all the seven panchayats in the taluka irrespective of their affiliations to any political party.
On being elected unopposed, Naik thanked Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar for his role in convincing Hari K Naik not to file the nominations.
