MARGAO: Cuncolim police have been caught napping once again as motorcycle borne robbers successfully targeted women church goers by snatching a gold chain on Saturday morning.
That’s not all. The police have so far failed to detect the robberies, including chain snatching and the daring robbery in Kamaxi FOREX, Chinchinim, till date.
The latest incident occurred when two women were heading to the Our Lady of Health Church for the 7.30 am Mass when three unknown motorcycle-borne miscreants came on the scene and snatched the chain at will. They made good their escape before the victim could raise an alarm.
Caught napping over the incident, the Cuncolim police feigned ignorance about the incident, saying that no crime has been registered at the police station on Saturday.
Incidentally, this is the second chain snatching incident along the same stretch of road. Though the chain snatching incidents have triggered a fear psychosis amongst the elderly women going for Mass and jogging, there seems no patrolling by the police on the roads to order to instil confidence amongst the people.
Statistics revealed that around half-a-dozen robberies involving senior citizens were reported in the jurisdiction of Cuncolim police station since the last one year, but not a single case has been detected till date. The daring robbery in the Kamaxi Forex exchange also remains undetected by the Cuncolim police.
Meanwhile, three-unknown miscreants snatched gold chain from a 43-year woman Felicidade Fernandes at Sirlim on Saturday evening. The victim was proceeding on her cycle when the trio came on a motorcycle and snatched her chain, before pushing down the victim. She has sustained fracture to her leg. The gold chain is valued around Rs 1.5 lakh. Margao police are investigating the case.
