MARGAO: The depositors of Madgaum Urban Co-operative Bank (MUCB), especially those working abroad are finding it difficult to apply for the withdrawal of their hard-earned money as they claimed that neither the government-appointed liquidator nor the branch officials are attending to their phone calls.
Speaking to Herald Carmo De Souza, who presently works in the United Kingdom, said he is finding it difficult to withdraw his money, without speaking to the concerned liquidator.

“I have an account at the Goa Velha branch of the Madgaum Urban Co-operative Bank. No one is attending to the phone calls on the landline numbers, and hence I am finding it difficult to claim for the withdrawal,” he said.
It is pertinent to note that government-appointed liquidator S V Naik has already issued a public notice to the depositors appealing them to claim for withdrawal of their money within two months. The notice was issued in August.
The notice has been published under Rule 129(4) of the Goa Co-operative Societies Rules, 2003, calling upon all depositors having claims against the MUCB to submit their claims duly filled on “Depositors Claim Form” within two months at the bank’s respective branches.
The depositors need to submit their original term deposit receipt/passbook of account held, duly discharged while submitting the claims and should also carry original documents of identity proof/ residence proof for verification.
In July this year, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had cancelled the licence of The Madgaum Urban Co-operative Bank Limited, Margao.
