MAPUSA: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has requested the government against holding Sunburn, the electronic dance music festival in Goa this year due to the prevailing COVID pandemic.

“Over 600 people have lost their lives in the State due to COVID-19. People from all over will visit Goa to attend this event where no social distancing will be followed since it’s an event of music and dance”, NCP general secretary Sanjay Barde said.
“The government is not granting permission to locals to hold events and the annual zatras citing reasons that social distancing norms will be violated. However, the government is ready to hold such events which will be attended by thousands”, Barde claimed.
“The situation in Maharashtra and Karnataka is bad and the people from these two States attending the EDM event will cause the virus to spread further”, Barde cautioned.
“Elected MLAs are scared of the virus and are not ready to come to the Assembly. In last three years, only 22-23 sessions were held. Before holding this major event all MLAs should hold Assembly session. Government is not willing to convene Assembly session but is ready to organise Sunburn”, Barde alleged.
NCP claimed that events like Sunburn do not benefit the locals in any way.
“We have written to panchayat to permit the local women to sell their home-made goods and handcrafts at the spot. We want to see whether the government helps Goons or not”, he added.
