PANJIM: A day after Congress Vice President Babi Bagkar made an open charge against party President Luizinho Faleiro of fixing party tickets for the 2017 elections, the newly appointed party secretaries have refuted the allegations stating the party has not assured tickets to anyone and that their appointments are based on performance.
“We have no idea why Bagkar is making such baseless allegations against the party. Our appointments are totally based on our performance and potential. We are also not assured any party ticket by the president,” Congress secretary Pradeep Naik told media persons on Friday.
On Thursday, Bagkar had alleged that the Congress president was welcoming the old enemy back into the party and also appointing RSS members in the party. He was targeting the appointment of former MLA Dayanand Sopte and RSS member Manohar Shirodkar as new GPCC secretaries.
“Sopte was never against Congress party. Yes, there were differences initially but with Luizinho Faleiro taking over as president in October last year, Sopte returned to the party fold,” Naik said.
Commenting on Shirodkar’s connection with the RSS, Naik said he was not aware about it and even if he was associated with the RSS in the past, his entry in Congress proves that he was not happy with his former organization’s ideology.
“There is no issue if some former RSS leader or member joins Congress provided he accepts the party’s ideology,” he added.
Naik, said that the appointment of ten new secretaries was with a special task to reach out to the masses, whereas the opposition has spread false propaganda and initiated systematic character assassination of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
