PANJIM: The National Green Tribunal (NGT), on Tuesday, declined Goa Foundation’s appeal for a stay on Goa Tourism Development Corporation’s (GTDC) Baina Beach beautification project.
Hearing the case on Tuesday, the Pune bench of the NGT was not convinced of Goa Foundation’s claims of various NDZ and CRZ violations relating to the Baina beach beautification project.
GTDC had submitted its affidavit in reply denying any violation of CRZ and NDZ rules and regulations and had submitted supporting documents containing permissions, approvals, NOCs from Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA), Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC), Mormugao Port Trust (MPT), and Mormugao Planning and Development Authority (MPDA).
GCZMA will submit its reply when NGT further hears the matter on November 23. Last month Goa Foundation (NGO) had filed a petition against the Baina Beach beautification project.
It was the second petition against the project. In both cases, NGT has not granted any interim relief to the petitioners. The Baina Beach beautification project will give a facelift to the area which is close to the Ravindra Bhavan promoting Art and Culture. The on-going works of paving, landscaping and setting up of pergolas have been completed.
