PANJIM: Principal Bench of the National Green Tribunal, New Delhi on Monday issued a bailable warrant against State Chief Secretary B Vijayan for failing to respond on the government stand on restoration of mines, while hearing the illegal mining petition filed by a Green NGO against a mining company. NGT has withheld the warrant till September 26.
NGT had on July 31 and August 19 issued notice to non-applicants – Government of Goa, to submit their say on restoration of mines, in a petition filed by NGO Goa Paryavaran Sangharsh Samiti against MSHL Nathurmal and Ors. “As nobody is present on behalf of State of Goa, despite service, in exercise of our powers and in terms of the provision of Section 19 (4) (a) of the National Green Tribunal Act, 2010 read with Order XVI Rule 10(3) and Section 151 of Code of Civil Procedure, 1908, we issue bailable warrant against the Chief Secretary, for a sum of Rs 20,000 to the satisfaction of the arresting Officer, for securing his presence before us,” the
order reads
